Lifesaving amputation made possible for Emma

Meet Emma.

Emma is a 6 month old Vizsla mix who has stolen the hearts of everyone at HSLM.

When Emma arrived at the shelter our team was quick to notice something was wrong with one of her hind legs. Emma was quickly taken to one of our partnering veterinarians, for an emergency exam and x-rays. Diagnostic tests revealed that sweet Emma had a fracture of her femur. Due to Emma’s age and the severity of the fracture, the vet concluded that the safest option was to amputate Emma’s left leg.

Emma’s recovery post-surgery was nothing short of remarkable! After her procedure, Emma quickly recovered and returned to her usual vitality.

Emma is now in a comfortable foster home where she is able to recover until she is available for adoption.

At HSLM, we are dedicated to ensuring every animal in our shelter receives the care and support they need. Did you know that lifesaving care expenses, such as Emma’s emergency surgery, are made possible thanks to individual and corporate donations? One of the easiest and most impactful ways for community members to show their commitment to caring for animals like Emma is becoming a monthly PAW donor.

A heartfelt thank you to our PAW monthly donors for your ongoing support — join them today and make a lasting impact!
